Walks and social Programme

Notes: Weekend walks normally range from 5 to 12 miles. It is recommended that walkers bring sufficient food and drink for themselves bearing in mind that the longest walks can take up to about 5 hours. Whilst pub or tea shop stops may be indicated these may not always be possible.Please bring suitable footwear, trainers may be unsuitable in wet conditions.If you want any information on any of the walks below please contact the leader.Map numbers refer to Ordnance Survey 1:25000 Explorer series.If you require a lift to the start of the walk contact the leader, they may be able to help.Walks are normally still held if it is raining but maybe cancelled due to extreme weather conditions,If in any doubt please contact the walk leader.

Sat 10th Jan – Welney Swans by Floodlight
See the swans at the Wildfowl and Wetlands trust centre in Welney. Watch them being fed from a heated hide with commentary by a WWT warden. Meet at Ramada Hotel car park at 4:30pm (this is recommended in order to confirm the route – the main road to Welney is liable to flooding) Contact Paul Bennet on 01733 553828 for details

Thu 15th Jan – Pub meet at the FitzWilliam Arms, Marholm (aka the Green Man). Meet from 8pm for social drinks and the Summer Walks Planning meeting. Contact Paul N

Sun 18 Jan. Sawtry
Meet outside the Greystones public house in Sawtry (park in streets nearby), map/grid ref. 227/TL167837 at 10.30. Circular walk ideal for new walkers. Optional Sunday lunch afterwards but please contact the walk leader beforehand to book your place. 7 km (4½miles). Sarah & Stephen 01733 247275

Meet outside The Crown public house in Elton, map/grid ref. 227/TL086942 at 10:30. Walk via Eaglethorpe and Fotheringhay with the option of a further walk in the afternoon. 10km (6 miles). Paul B 01733 553828

Sat 7th Feb – Laser Quest in Peterborough at 7pm. Followed by either drinks or a meal to be decided by the group on the night.

Sun 15 Feb. Great Casterton
Meet at Toll Bar, opposite the Stamford Garden Centre, in Great Casterton, map/grid ref. 234/TF005085 at 10:00. Walk via Empingham along the banks of the River Gwash. Pub stop half way round at the White Horse. 15km (9 miles). Debbie 07904 373253

Sat 21st Feb – Games evening at Debbie’s house from 7pm. Bring your favourite games along for an informal evening of competition and fun. Please contact me on 07904 373253 to let me know you are coming. Please can I ask all guests to bring a dish along towards the buffet supper.

Thu 26th Feb – Pub meet and Curry Evening at the Drapers Arms, Cowgate, Peterborough for their special of Curry and a pint for £5. There will also be Social Planning for May to Aug. Sun 1 Mar. Apethorpe Figure of Eight
Meet at The Kings Head, Apethorpe, map/grid ref. 234/TL022958 (park in streets nearby). Morning walk starts at 11:00 walk via King's Cliffe. Afternoon walk starts at 14:00 walk via Lodge farm and Tomlin Wood. Sun 15 Mar. Shefford & Clophill
Meet at the Rowney Warren Wood picnic area off the A600 just north of Shefford, map/grid ref. 193/TL125403. Follow the John Bunyan Trail to Haynes Park and on to Clophill for a pub stop then along the banks of the river Flit to Shefford. 16km (10 miles). Michael 01778 348845

Meet at the car park on the A1123 between the New and Old Bedford Rivers in Earith, map/grid ref. 225/TL392748 at 10:30. A Fenland walk along by the river and through the orchards with a pub stop at Bluntisham. 10km (6 miles). Katie & Wendy 07757 031595

Easter Walking Weekend in Whitby – Thurs 9th to Mon 13th April. There will be walks arranged in the area around Whitby which includes the Yorkshire Dales and coastal walks – we may even manage the Dracula self-guide walk through Whitby itself!
